What to bring and wear for a Portrait

Clothes can make or break a portrait so choose carefully for the desired effect.

For group portraits select the clothes that match; plainer patterns and softer colours are easier to co-ordinate. Strong patterns and bright colours stand out and this can be used to great effect, if that is the effect that you want.

Long sleeves make it easier for arms to be incorporated into the picture and higher necklines make the composition of head and shoulder portraits more natural.

Bringing a selection of clothes helps avoid inadvertant mis-matches and also gives variety if you are having a number of different poses/groups. Clothes can vary in colour, style and function.

Accessories, such as hats, scarves, toys and personal items personalise a portrait, making it more meaningful as well as giving you something to do with your hands.
