Portrait Photography Berkshire - Alice Luker - ModelI love creating beautiful fine art portraits and taking photographs that are ideal for professional publicity and are perfect as presents for close friends and distant relatives.

These are some of the photographs from a photoshoot with two photography students; Alice was the model and Maria was my assistant photographer.

We produced both fashion and portrait photographs using dramatic lighting effects and poses. Some photographs where taken as ‘implied nude’ so that there were no distractions from clothes, leaving just the model, her hair and the lighting to create the picture pure and simple.

Georgina Khul Model BerkshireThese are the results from a portrait photography shoot in Bracknell, Berkshire. I used it to develop and improve posing, lighting and photography techniques as well as to extend my portrait portfolio.

Here are examples of other Model Portfolio Photoshoots.

Some of the photographs are taken with natural light from a large window on the other side of the room, some with flashguns, umbrellas and a white backdrop, backlit by two remote vivitar flashguns and some are lit by a combination of ambient tungsten light with colour, filtered flash bounced off a reflector and the camera colour corrected. All of this was taken in a room using the portable studio.

The photographs were enhanced in Photoshop with the aim of creating beautiful images that could be hung on a wall.

I found this book particularly inspirational and comprehensive. It covers technical areas like cameras and illumination but then goes on to explore Creativity and Conceptualisation. It also explores the subject/photographer relationship and covers different subjects from celebrities through corporate to sports and drama.

The thing that first tickles me about this book is that it considers 308 pages an introduction. There is so much to learn about photography and this book is an excellent start to begin to understand light.

Portraits Using Natural Window Light

Light from a window can give an amazing, soft light for portraits and produce beautifully tender photographs.

Unlike in a studio, you move the camera position to change effect of the lighting. Starting with the camera between the model and the window, move in a semi circle to behind the model. This will change from no shadows to total shadow. The position of the camera determines how much of the model is in shadow. Continue reading Portraits Using Natural Window Light…

Animation Film Producer – Press Release

Corporate Headshots Berkshire – John Wood Photography – Ascot

These photographs were taken in a lounge in Ascot using the portable studio.

A 500W 15″ Dome cool light was placed to the left of centre by the camera and a 100W cool light soft box to the right near the subject for fill. There was a snooted SB800 behind left high for hair highlights.

A projector screen was used as a background and a flag was used to keep most of the light from the Dome hitting it. The subject was 3-4ft in front of the background.

The model was held on with gaffer tape which was removed in photoshop.

The photograph is being used in publicity material for the premier showing of the animation film “The Modelmaker”, produced by Phil Wood.

Family Portraits

These photographs were taken in the family’s home in Camberley using the portable studio.

The SB800 was fired into an Umbrella (3ft) on the left with a Reflector on the right and the SB600 high/behind giving highlights to the hair.

The Nikon D300 camera was connected by USB to a laptop so the images could be seen clearly.

After the photographs had been taken, we sat down and everyone chose the best ones they preferred. In some cases I used two or more versions to achieve the final result.

The poses that worked best were those with the heads closest together and formed either straight or curved lines. Keeping the heads equi-distant was also important.

The client liked the photographs because she could see everyone’s current personality show through, which is exactly what she wanted.
