These are photographs taken for local Berkshire poet, Katie Ruth, for her new book the Route of Hope. There is a portrait of her for the inside cover and photographs to illustrate some of her poems.

“Suffering anxiety attack during her early twenties, locked in her room, often with suicidal thoughts, Katie Ruth wrote her way from the pits of despair to a full recovery. Now able to face the world head-on.

Technical: I used the SB900 Nikon speedlight on a light stand for the ‘Into the Light’ photograph. I wanted to have the subject stand out from the background. I was able to use the speed to control the darkness of the background and combined the aperture and the power of the speedlight to control the foreground. I used the Nikon CLS system with the SU-800 Commander to both trigger and set the speedlight remotely.
