Georgina Khul Model BerkshireThese are the results from a portrait photography shoot in Bracknell, Berkshire. I used it to develop and improve posing, lighting and photography techniques as well as to extend my portrait portfolio.

Here are examples of other Model Portfolio Photoshoots.

Some of the photographs are taken with natural light from a large window on the other side of the room, some with flashguns, umbrellas and a white backdrop, backlit by two remote vivitar flashguns and some are lit by a combination of ambient tungsten light with colour, filtered flash bounced off a reflector and the camera colour corrected. All of this was taken in a room using the portable studio.

The photographs were enhanced in Photoshop with the aim of creating beautiful images that could be hung on a wall.

Nude Photography Notebook Book Review

John Wood Photography
51y4a6kp2gl_sl500_aa240_Nude Photography Notebook: Inspiration, Ideas, Photographs and Techniques by Allan Jenkins and Eddie Ephraums.

Not your standard ‘This is how to do it’ book, or ‘This is how I did it’ book. Its more like sitting down with a photographer in his studio and he picks things up that he comes across and tells you about them.

Drawing, painting and photographing the human body is particularly hard to do well because everyone has their own idea of how it should look and immediately spot any mistakes.

Lighting for Nude Photography by Rod Ashford.

This book is full of different lighting techniques for lighting the human form. It is more about lighting than nudes.

Lighting the human body to show all its different shapes, textures and contexts is one of the most difficult things to light. On top of that, different lighting techniques combined with the body’s features can create very different moods and effects.

This book is full of amazing photographs and shows how each photograph has been lit. At the same time as exposing the large number of lighting techniques to be mastered it leads you step by step and brings each technique within reach.

I found this book particularly inspirational and comprehensive. It covers technical areas like cameras and illumination but then goes on to explore Creativity and Conceptualisation. It also explores the subject/photographer relationship and covers different subjects from celebrities through corporate to sports and drama.

dnc_4123d_resizeJohn Wood Photography started in 2008 and quickly set up a website to advertise Wedding and Portrait Photographic services. The only problem was that no one could find the site because it takes both time and money to rise in the Google Search Rankings. This is a typical problem for all new websites and Google Ads is one quick solution to this problem.

John Wood Photography dnc4907Unsigned in Berkshire celebrated performances from local talent at Jagz by Ascot Station.

The highlight of the evening (not that being his dad has anything to do with it) was the Premier showing of Philip Wood’s Animation Film The Modelmaker. It was received, as was Phil, with rapturous, warm applause. It also featured Lizzy Split, Adam Woolard and Hamish Meaney.

The thing that first tickles me about this book is that it considers 308 pages an introduction. There is so much to learn about photography and this book is an excellent start to begin to understand light.
